Admin Tools
Every /tablet command, the live settings editor section by section, and how to grant admin access in oxide-tablet.
Every command that comes with oxide-tablet, the in-game settings editor you use to set up the tablet, and how to give someone admin access.
Most of your setup happens in one place: type /tablet settings in game. Changes you save there go live straight away, with no restart and no file editing.
Commands Overview
/tablet is one command — the word you type after it picks what it does. You can type these in the in-game chat. Where the table says "Yes" under Server console, you can also type the command (without the /) into your server console, the text window where your server prints its messages (or Live Console in txAdmin).
| Command | What it does | Who can use it | Server console | Needs Debug logging |
|---|---|---|---|---|
/tablet | Shows the list of tablet commands | Everyone | Yes | No |
/tablet open | Opens your tablet | Everyone | No | No |
/tablet device | Shows the name and IMEI of the tablet you carry | Everyone | No | No |
/tablet resethome | Puts a home screen back to the default layout | Everyone | No | No |
/tablet settings | Opens the settings editor | Admins | No | No |
/tablet wipe <imei> | Factory-resets one tablet | Admins | Yes | No |
/tablet notify <app> [#id] <message> | Sends a test notification to your own tablet | Admins | No | No |
oxide-tablet:mapmode [mode] | Shows or changes how the Maps app draws the islands | Admins | Yes | No |
tablet_testsend | Test command for developers | Everyone, but only while Debug logging is on | No | Yes |
Who can use it means:
- Everyone: any player can run it. No permission is needed.
- Admins: only players who pass the admin check (see Permissions). Anyone else gets the message "You do not have permission." (
oxide-tablet:mapmodesays "You do not have permission to change map settings.")
Needs Debug logging means the command only works while Debug logging is switched on in the settings editor (Advanced tab, Advanced section). Only tablet_testsend needs it. Every other command is always available.
Command Details
/tablet
Shows which tablet commands exist.
/tabletTyping /tablet on its own, or with a word it doesn't recognise, shows in game:
Usage: /tablet <open|device|resethome|settings|wipe|notify>Run from the server console, it prints one line per subcommand with a short description instead.
Who can use it: everyone. Server console: yes.
/tablet open
Opens your tablet, just like pressing the Open tablet key.
/tablet openWho can use it: everyone. Server console: no — from the console it prints "This command must be run in-game."
What happens:
- If Require an item is on (it is by default), you must carry one of the tablet items listed in the settings editor. If you carry more than one tablet, the one in your lowest inventory slot opens.
- If Require an item is off, the tablet opens for anyone. Its home screen and settings are then saved to your character instead of to a tablet item.
Output:
| Message | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Your tablet opens on screen | Success |
| "You don't have a tablet." | Require an item is on and you aren't carrying a tablet item |
| "The tablet is disabled on this server." | Tablet enabled is switched off in the settings editor |
| "You can't use a tablet while you're down." | Your character is dead or downed |
| "This tablet's battery is dead. Put it away to let it charge, and ask an admin if it stays flat." | The tablet you are carrying has run out of charge |
Notes:
- If you run it again within half a second, the second try is ignored. This is normal.
- The tablet won't open while the settings editor is open on your screen.
/tablet device
Tells you which tablet you're carrying. Every tablet item gets its own IMEI, a 15-digit ID number, the first time it's used. The IMEI stays with that item even when it changes hands, so it's how you tell one tablet apart from another.
/tablet deviceWho can use it: everyone. Server console: no — from the console it prints "This command must be run in-game."
If you carry more than one tablet, this shows the one in your lowest inventory slot. That's the same tablet that opens when you press the key.
Output:
| Message | Meaning |
|---|---|
Tablet (IMEI 351234567890123) | Success. The first word is the tablet's name. It shows "Tablet" until someone renames it in the tablet's Settings app |
| "This tablet has not been activated yet. Use it once to assign an IMEI." | The tablet has never been opened. Open it once, then try again |
| "You don't have a tablet." | You aren't carrying a tablet item |
Notes:
- Players can also find the IMEI inside the tablet under Settings → About. If Show IMEI on the item is on, it also appears in the item's description in inventories that show item descriptions.
- If a tablet still says "not activated" after being opened, your inventory probably can't save extra information on items. The tablet still works, but its home screen and settings are saved to the character instead of the item.
/tablet resethome
Puts a home screen back to the default arrangement of apps and widgets. Installed apps and the Settings app choices are not touched — only the layout is reset.
/tablet resethomeWho can use it: everyone. Server console: no — from the console it prints "This command must be run in-game."
Which home screen gets reset: the same tablet that /tablet open would bring out.
- With Require an item on, that's the first tablet item in your inventory that already has an IMEI.
- Your character's home screen is reset instead when that tablet has never been used (it has no IMEI yet), when your inventory can't save an IMEI on items, when Require an item is off, or when you carry no tablet at all.
If you carry more than one tablet, reset a particular one from inside it: open it, go to Settings → General, and tap Reset layout (tap again to confirm).
Output:
- Success: "Home screen reset to the default layout."
- Failure: "The home screen could not be reset right now." This happens when your character hasn't finished loading.
/tablet settings
Opens the settings editor, where you change every tablet option live. See The Settings Editor for a walk-through.
/tablet settingsWho can use it: admins. Server console: no — from the console it prints "This command must be run in-game."
Output:
- Success: the settings editor opens. If your tablet was open, it's put away first.
- Failure: "You do not have permission."
/tablet wipe
Factory-resets one tablet using its IMEI. Use this when a tablet has a messy home screen, an unwanted name, or when a player asks for a clean start.
/tablet wipe <imei>| Parameter | Type | Required | Description |
|---|---|---|---|
imei | number (15 digits) | Yes | The tablet's IMEI. Get it with /tablet device from the player holding it, or from Settings → About on the tablet |
/tablet wipe 351234567890123 -- in-game chat
tablet wipe 351234567890123 -- server console (no slash)Who can use it: admins. Server console: yes — messages print in the console.
What gets reset:
- The tablet's name
- Its battery, back to 100%
- Its home screen layout and wallpaper
- The apps installed on it
- The choices made in its Settings app (notifications and accessibility)
What stays: the item itself and its IMEI. The next time someone uses it, it starts fresh like a new tablet.
If someone is using that tablet right now, their screen resets straight away.
Output:
| Message | Meaning |
|---|---|
| "Tablet 351234567890123 reset to factory settings." | Success |
| "That is not a valid IMEI." | The number isn't exactly 15 digits |
| "No tablet with that IMEI." | No tablet with that number has ever been activated on your server |
/tablet notify
Sends a test notification to your own tablet. Use it to check that notifications, banners and sounds work.
/tablet notify <app> [#id] <message>| Parameter | Type | Required | Description |
|---|---|---|---|
app | text | Yes | The ID of an app on your tablet. The notification appears as if that app sent it |
#id | text | No | A word that starts with #. Sending again with the same #id replaces the earlier notification instead of adding a new one |
message | text | Yes | The notification text. Everything after the app (and the #id, if you gave one) is used |
App IDs you can always test with:
| App ID | App |
|---|---|
tablet_settings | Settings (on every tablet) |
app_store | App Store (while the App Store is enabled) |
tablet_map | Maps (once installed on your tablet) |
Apps from other resources work too. Use the app ID that resource registers.
/tablet notify tablet_settings Hello from the admin team
/tablet notify tablet_settings #test First version
/tablet notify tablet_settings #test This replaces the first versionWho can use it: admins. Server console: no — from the console it prints "This command must be run in-game."
Output:
- Success: no chat message. The notification titled "Test notification" arrives on your tablet. It drops in as a banner if the tablet is open, or as a small bubble at the bottom right of your screen if it's put away. Tapping the banner, or the notification in the tablet's notification tray, opens the app.
Usage: /tablet notify <app> [#id] <message>means the app or the message is missing.
If nothing shows up, check these:
- The app ID is spelled correctly and that app exists on your tablet.
- Notifications → Enabled is on in the settings editor.
- In your tablet's Settings app, that app's notifications are switched on, and Do Not Disturb is off.
- The app is installed on your tablet. Notifications for apps you haven't installed are kept but not shown.
oxide-tablet:mapmode
Shows or changes how the Maps app draws the main map and Cayo Perico. This is the same setting as Map mode in the settings editor (Apps → Map App), so use whichever is easier.
oxide-tablet:mapmode [mode]| Parameter | Type | Required | Description |
|---|---|---|---|
mode | text | No | One of the modes below. Leave it out to print the current mode |
| Mode | What players see |
|---|---|
inherit | Uses the default set in o-link (this is the factory setting) |
combined | Both islands on one map |
separate | Separate views for the mainland and Cayo Perico |
disabled | Cayo Perico is hidden |
oxide-tablet:mapmode -- server console: print the current mode
oxide-tablet:mapmode separate -- server console: switch to separate island views
/oxide-tablet:mapmode combined -- in-game chatWho can use it: admins. Server console: yes.
Output — all replies print in the server console, even when you type the command in game:
- Success:
[oxide-tablet] MapMode = separate - Wrong mode:
[oxide-tablet] Use oxide-tablet:mapmode inherit|combined|separate|disabled - Not an admin (in game): "You do not have permission to change map settings."
Notes:
- The change is saved and reaches open Maps apps right away.
- If the server has only just started, the command may do nothing until the tablet finishes loading its settings. Wait a few seconds and try again.
tablet_testsend
A test command for developers. It opens the tablet's built-in Demo app and sends it a test message.
tablet_testsendWho can use it: anyone, but it does nothing unless Debug logging is on. Server console: no — it only exists in the player's own game (type it in F8 or chat).
Needs Debug logging: yes. The command doesn't exist until Debug logging has been switched on while that player is online, or the player joins with it on. Once it exists it stays until the player reconnects, but it does nothing while Debug logging is off.
Output: the tablet opens straight into the Demo app. Nothing happens when Debug logging is off.
Leave Debug logging off on a live server. See Advanced: Advanced.
The "Open tablet" key
Players can also open the tablet with a key. Pressing it again puts the tablet away. It follows the same rules as /tablet open.
- Players set their own key in the GTA pause menu under Settings → Key Bindings → FiveM, entry Open tablet.
- It has no key by default. You can choose a default key under Open keybind default in the settings editor. That default only applies to players who have never joined your server before.
The Settings Editor
How the Editor Works
Type /tablet settings in game to open it. This is where you set up everything about the tablet.
Important: the first time the tablet starts, it copies the values from shared/config.lua into your database (table oxide_settings). From then on, the database is what counts. Editing shared/config.lua afterwards does not change your live server — use this editor instead. The file values are still used for the Reset to default buttons.
Finding your way around
- The left sidebar groups the sections under four headings: Core, Appearance, Advanced and Apps. Click a heading to fold it open or closed, and click a section to show its settings.
- The Basic and Advanced tabs at the top switch between everyday settings and a few rarely needed ones. Everything on this page is on the Basic tab unless it says Advanced tab.
- The Search settings box finds a setting by name.
Changing and saving
Change a value. It gets a changed badge, and the bottom bar counts your unsaved changes.
Click Save Changes.
Look for the message in the corner of the editor:
- "Settings saved": everything was saved.
- "Some settings were rejected — check the highlighted fields": some settings were saved, others were not. Red text under a setting tells you what was wrong, for example "must be at least 10".
- "Settings could not be saved": nothing was saved.
Reset to default
Every setting in the left-hand list has a circular arrow button. Clicking it puts that setting back to its value in shared/config.lua and saves it immediately — you don't need to click Save afterwards. Settings that are grouped together (Battery, Home screen, App Store, Push notifications, Held pose) share the one arrow next to the group name, so clicking it resets every setting in that group at once.
Closing
Click Close or press ESC. Changes you haven't saved are thrown away.
When changes take effect
Each table below has a Takes effect column:
- Right away: applies as soon as you save, even on tablets that are already open.
- Next open: applies the next time someone opens a tablet. Tablets that are open now keep the old value until they are put away.
Core: General
The master switch and how ESC behaves.
| Setting | What it does | Limits | Takes effect |
|---|---|---|---|
| Tablet enabled | Turns the whole tablet on or off. When off, every open tablet closes, and the tablet items, the key and /tablet open stop working. Players who press the key or type /tablet open see "The tablet is disabled on this server." | On / Off | Right away |
| ESC inside an app | What ESC does while an app is open. Back to the app launcher returns to the home screen. Put the tablet away closes the tablet. ESC on the home screen always puts the tablet away | Two choices | Right away |
| Open keybind default (Advanced tab) | The default key for opening the tablet, for example F5. Leave it empty for no key | Up to 20 characters | Only for players who have never joined your server. Everyone else sets their own key in FiveM key bindings |
Core: Tablet Items
Which inventory items open the tablet, and what each one shows.
| Setting | What it does | Limits | Takes effect |
|---|---|---|---|
| Require an item | When on, the key and /tablet open only work while the player carries one of the items below. When off, anyone can open the tablet, and home screens and settings are saved to the character instead of the item. Scripts that open their own app on the tablet never need an item | On / Off | Next open |
| Tablet items | The list of items that open the tablet when used. Click Add for a new row | Up to 50 rows | New items work right away. A tablet that's already open keeps its app list until it's put away |
Each row in Tablet items has:
| Field | What to enter |
|---|---|
| Item | The item's name exactly as your inventory knows it, for example tablet. Required, up to 40 characters. The item must already exist in your inventory system |
| Apps | Leave this empty for a normal tablet, where players install apps from the App Store. Add app IDs from the resources that register them to make a locked-down tablet: only the listed apps appear, they're installed automatically, and the App Store isn't offered. The Settings app is always there |
Watch out: don't add an item that another resource already opens by itself. If that resource also handles the item as a usable item, both react when the item is used. Check its config for an "open with an item" option and turn it off first.
Core: Devices
| Setting | What it does | Limits | Takes effect |
|---|---|---|---|
| Show IMEI on the item | When a tablet is first activated, writes "IMEI 351234567890123" into the item's description, so players can see it in inventories that show item descriptions | On / Off | Tablets activated after the change. Tablets that already have an IMEI keep their current description |
| Battery → Battery drain | Tablets with an IMEI lose charge while they are out and get it back while they are put away. At 0% a tablet puts itself away and won't open until it has recharged. When off, tablets never lose charge and the battery in the status bar is decoration | On / Off | Right away, including tablets that are already out |
| Battery → Drain per minute | Percent of charge lost for every minute the tablet is out. 0.5 empties a full battery in 3 hours 20 minutes | 0 to 100 (factory setting 0.5) | Right away |
| Battery → Recharge per minute | Percent of charge gained for every minute the tablet is put away. A flat tablet opens again once it is back to 1%. At 0 it never recharges on its own, and then only comes back through /tablet wipe or by turning Battery drain off | 0 to 100 (factory setting 1.5) | The next time a tablet is opened |
Appearance: Home Screen
Limits for the home screens players arrange, and the wallpaper pictures they can choose from.
| Setting | What it does | Limits | Takes effect |
|---|---|---|---|
| Dock size | The most apps a player can keep in the dock at the bottom of the home screen. 0 hides the dock | 0 to 6 | Right away |
| Max pages | The most home-screen pages a player can create | 1 to 5 | Right away |
| Wallpaper images | Extra pictures offered in the wallpaper picker, next to the built-in ones | Up to 30 rows | Right away (a new image file needs a restart, see below) |
Each wallpaper row has:
| Field | What to enter |
|---|---|
| Id | A short name made of letters, numbers, - and _, for example skyline. Required, up to 32 characters. Players' saved choices point at this name, so don't change it once people are using the image |
| Label | The name players see in the picker. Required, up to 40 characters |
| Image | Either the filename of a picture you placed in the tablet's wallpapers/ folder (for example skyline.jpg, with a lowercase .png, .jpg, .jpeg or .webp ending), or a full web address starting with https://. Required, up to 200 characters |
Adding your own picture
Copy the picture into the wallpapers/ folder inside oxide-tablet. Use a lowercase ending and a filename with only letters, numbers, - and _. A picture around 1600x1000 fits the screen without cropping.
Add a row here and click Save Changes.
Restart the tablet resource so players can download the new file. For example, type ensure oxide-tablet in your server console.
- A row with an invalid Id or Image is skipped and doesn't appear in the picker.
- If you remove a picture that someone is using, their tablet goes back to the default wallpaper.
Appearance: App Store
Every tablet has a built-in App Store. Scripts add apps to it, and players choose which ones to install on each tablet.
| Setting | What it does | Limits | Takes effect |
|---|---|---|---|
| Enabled | When on, players install apps from the App Store. When off, every app a player is allowed to use is installed automatically and the App Store app disappears. Players' saved choices are kept in case you turn it back on | On / Off | Right away |
| Preinstalled apps | App IDs installed on every tablet. They show as Built-in in the store and can't be uninstalled. Players still only see an app if they're allowed to use it (for example, the right job) | Each ID up to 64 characters | Right away |
Appearance: Notifications
Notifications are the pop-up messages that apps send to the tablet.
| Setting | What it does | Limits | Takes effect |
|---|---|---|---|
| Enabled | When off, apps can't send notifications at all, and the tablet's Settings app tells players "Notifications are turned off on this server." | On / Off | Right away |
| Kept per player | How many notifications a player keeps until they tap or dismiss them. Beyond this, the oldest are dropped | 10 to 500 (factory setting 100) | Right away |
| Banner duration | How long a banner (tablet open) or bubble (tablet put away) stays on screen, in milliseconds. 1000 is one second | 1000 to 30000 (factory setting 5000) | Right away |
| Show while the tablet is away | Shows a small bubble at the bottom right of the screen when a notification arrives and the tablet is put away | On / Off | Right away |
Inside Sound:
| Setting | What it does | Limits | Takes effect |
|---|---|---|---|
| Play a sound | Plays a sound when a banner or bubble appears | On / Off | Right away |
| Sound file | The sound the tablet plays. The tablet comes with notification.mp3. To use your own, put an .mp3 file in the tablet's web/dist/sound folder (next to notification.mp3), restart the server, and type the file's name here. A name that doesn't exist plays nothing | Up to 80 characters | Right away |
| Volume | The loudest the sound can be. 0 is silent, 1 is full volume. Players can turn it down further in their tablet's Settings app, but never louder than this | 0 to 1 (factory setting 0.5) | Right away |
For what players can change themselves (Do Not Disturb, muting single apps, and so on), see Settings App.
Appearance: Animation
The pose and tablet prop players hold while the tablet is open. Other players see this too.
| Setting | What it does | Limits | Takes effect |
|---|---|---|---|
| Enabled | Plays the pose and puts the tablet prop in the player's hand while the tablet is open | On / Off | Next open |
| Animation dictionary | The GTA animation dictionary to play | Up to 120 characters | Next open |
| Animation clip | The animation inside that dictionary | Up to 80 characters | Next open |
| Animation flag | How the animation plays. 49 loops it on the upper body only, so players can still walk and drive | 0 to 4096 | Next open |
Inside Prop:
| Setting | What it does | Limits | Takes effect |
|---|---|---|---|
| Model | The prop held in the hand. Factory setting prop_cs_tablet | Up to 60 characters | Next open |
| Bone | The body bone the prop attaches to | 0 to 100000 | Next open |
| Offset | Moves the prop from the bone, in metres (X, Y, Z) | Numbers | Next open |
| Rotation | Turns the prop, in degrees (X, Y, Z) | Numbers | Next open |
If the pose looks wrong after an edit, click the circular arrow next to Held pose to put the whole section, animation and prop alike, back to its defaults.
Advanced: Compatibility
| Setting | What it does | Limits | Takes effect |
|---|---|---|---|
| Model replacements | Swaps a model the tablet uses for a different one. Each row has Replace (the model the tablet ships with, spelled exactly as in the warning) and With (a model your players' game has). Both are required, up to 60 characters each | Up to 100 rows | Next open |
When you need this: if a player's game version doesn't have the tablet prop, the tablet skips the prop and online admins get a message like:
[oxide-tablet] model "prop_cs_tablet" is not on this game build. Set a replacement in /tablet settings.Add a row with prop_cs_tablet under Replace and a prop your players have under With, then click Save Changes.
Advanced: Advanced
Both settings in this section are on the Advanced tab.
| Setting | What it does | Limits | Takes effect |
|---|---|---|---|
| App load timeout | How long an app may take to load before the tablet shows that the app "didn't respond" with a Retry button, in milliseconds | 1000 to 30000 (factory setting 8000) | The next time an app loads |
| Debug logging | Prints extra [oxide-tablet] lines to the console, adds a Demo app, adds Demo stat and Demo frame widgets, and turns on tablet_testsend. Only turn this on when Oxide Studios support asks you to | On / Off | Right away |
Apps: Map App
Settings for the built-in Maps app. For how Maps works for players, see Maps App.
| Setting | What it does | Limits | Takes effect |
|---|---|---|---|
| Map mode | How the map shows the islands: Inherit o-link default, Combined, Separate, or Cayo Perico disabled. Same as oxide-tablet:mapmode | Four choices | Right away |
| Maps available | Offers Maps in the App Store. Turning it off closes the app and hides it. Players' saved installs are kept | On / Off | Right away |
| Include existing map blips | Also lists the location blips each player already has on their own game map, next to the places you add | On / Off | Right away |
| Locations | Places shown to everyone who has Maps installed. The factory list is empty | Up to 100 places | Right away |
| Detected blip overrides | Renames or restyles blips that Maps found on your game map | Up to 100 overrides | Right away |
Step-by-step instructions for adding a location and overriding a detected blip are on the Maps App page.
Permissions
The tablet has one kind of permission: a player is either an admin or not. There are no per-command permissions and no admin levels. Commands marked Everyone need no permission at all, and the server console can always run every command that works there.
The tablet asks o-link whether a player is an admin. A player passes if they have either of these server permissions (called "ACE permissions" in FiveM):
commandadmin
On ESX, players in an ESX admin group pass as well.
You may not need to change anything. The standard QBCore and QBX server.cfg already gives group.admin the command permission, so your existing framework admins can already use the admin commands.
Making someone an admin
Open your server.cfg (the text file that tells your server what to start and who has which permissions) and add these two lines:
add_principal identifier.license:<id> group.admin
add_ace group.admin admin allow- The first line puts the player in the admin group. Replace
<id>with the player's license identifier. You can find it on the player's page in txAdmin; it's the long text afterlicense:. - The second line gives everyone in the admin group the
adminpermission. You only need this line once, however many admins you add.
Save the file and restart your server.
If an admin still gets "You do not have permission.", check that the license in server.cfg matches the player exactly, and that you restarted the server after saving.
